Hamlet Blog Discussion - Quiz Grade

Throughout the play, Hamlet claims to be feigning madness, but his portrayal of a madman is so intense and so convincing that many readers believe that Hamlet actually slips into insanity at certain moments in the play. Do you think this is true, or is Hamlet merely play-acting insanity? What evidence can you cite for either claim.

You must answer the question completely and provide evidence from the text (doesn't have to be a quote).  This is a quiz grade, so do not copy anyone else's answer.

Extra Credit Pts: Replying to someone else's response and creating a discussion between several classmates. (5-15pts.)

Extra Credit Assignment - First Semester

Earn extra credit toward your third six weeks AVERAGE!!!!  In order to receive extra credit you must complete the entire assignment because missing one part will result in loss of the extra credit.

• By now you may be wondering what sort of literary critic you are.  You may feel that you have a mixture of different critics, but this is not surprising because none of the schools of criticism are mutually exclusive.  With this being said, for this assignment I want you to classify yourself in one or more of the schools of criticism that we have learned about in class.  The second part of this assignment is to justify your reason for placing yourself in this school of criticism, using one or more of the readings that we have come across in class.  The readings can include: "The Sun Goes Down on Summer", The Stranger, Eaters of the Dead, "A Good Man is Hard to Find", "Hills Like White Elephants", Beowulf, Frankenstein, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking-Glass. 
• So to breakdown the assignment once again, your post must have the following:
• School of Criticism(s) Identified
• Paragraph Explanation as to why you classify yourself in this school
• examples used from the readings of the first semester.

* Make sure to write your name and class period.

Alice's adventures show her that life itself is absurd; all that she can do is try to find enjoyment in the things around her.  Alice has a secret craving for organization and meaning, and when the things around her are nonsensical she is irritated and frustrated.  In your opinion, do you believe that "life itself is absurd" and all we can "do is try to find enjoyment in the things around [us]"?

Joseph Campbell describes his idea of what a monster truly is, in your opinion who from the novel Frankenstein would fit Campbell's definition?  Your answer should specify a specific character and your explanation as  to why you chose that person.  Since this is a make-up assignment you cannot receive higher than a 70 for this assignment.
